One way to ensure that you do not end up with cavities is to take good care of your teeth by performing regular dental care. Brushing, flossing and using mouthwash can all help to rid your mouth of harmful bacteria. It is also an effective way to stage off cavities.

If your dentist tells you that your teeth require a deep cleaning, obtain a second opinion. This type of cleaning is more extensive and costs much more, so you need to make sure your dentist is not suggesting it for his own financial benefit.

If you drink a lot of fruit juices or eat a lot of fruit that contain acid, such as grapefruit or orange juice, it’s important to ensure that your teeth are brushed afterward. Doing this will help prevent harmful carbonic acids from eroding your teeth enamel.

If you desire healthy teeth, eat dairy products regularly. Eat yogurts, drink a lot of milk and eat cheese more often. If you are allergic to dairy or are lactose intolerant, you will need to take calcium supplements. You will avoid cavities and whiten your teeth.

Consider using a toothbrush with soft bristles. Your gums are very sensitive. Medium and hard bristles can damage them more than you know. Try switching to a toothbrush with soft bristles to protect them. You should especially consider switching if you already have any trouble with gum pain or bleeding.

If your teeth are particularly sensitive and you haven’t been able to find relief with a specialty toothpaste, visit your dentist. There are actually prescription-strength toothpastes formulated for extra sensitive teeth. They may cost you a little more but in the end, it will be well worth being able to brush comfortably without sensitivity issues.
