Many people wonder what happens when you visit a physiotherapist. Physiotherapists are often referred to as sports therapists and the profession is growing rapidly each year. A test called EMG will be performed in the examination room. An EMG examiner will use electrical stimulation to determine where exactly the muscles are located in your body. This helps the physiotherapist to know how best to treat you. For example, if you have lower back problems, then exercises that stretch those muscles and strengthen the surrounding muscles will be recommended. In other words, by increasing the strength in the core abdominal area, you will find that the pain associated with it will decrease.

When you visit the physiotherapist, you may be asked to describe your injury and to give some information about yourself. You will also be asked questions about any additional circumstances that you have observed recently. These questions are used in order to assess your level of fitness and to determine what your future fitness goals should be. You should ask the physiotherapist to describe your progress and to talk you through the exercises that they are going to teach you.

One of the most important aspects of any visit is relaxation. You need to fully aware of what is going on at the time and you need to be totally focused on what is being said to you by the physiotherapist. If you are uncomfortable or even if it feels like you are being talked down to at times, then it is time to get out of the visit and look for somewhere else to go. If you do not ask questions and do not follow the advice that is given to you, then it is unlikely that you will see any improvements.

If you are asking questions, then be sure that you are clear about what you want to achieve from the session. The answers that you give to the physiotherapist will help them to plan the session. If you are not clear about what you expect, then it may be more difficult for the physiotherapist to work out a plan that is suitable for you. You may even end up spending more money than you had intended.

There are lots of good physiotherapists around but it is very important that you do not just hire the first one that you see. Take the time to find a physiotherapist who is right for you and see them a number of times in order to get the best advice and possible results. If you have any reservations about the way the session is conducted, then it may be better to look elsewhere.
